About BBG Movies

Bright Blue Gorilla has made 3 feature films: Karate Film Café (2009), The Mind of Henry Lime (2007), and Sister Sarah's Sky (2005). Michael writes & directs, Robyn produces, and the cast is an ensemble of top L.A. and international talent. The film projects are truly "labors of love" with everybody pitching in to create that liveliest of arts: Cinema! Watch one of the "making of" videos and you can get a sense of the supportive environment that surrounds BBG movie shoots.

Do It Yourself

Robyn Rosenkrantz and Michael Glover both started their careers in Punk/New Wave Bands. The attitude of "do-it-yourself" that was a strong part of the punk movement became engrained in both Robyn and Michael. When they formed Bright Blue Gorilla in 1990 they agreed not to wait for a big record deal or for a big booking agency to sign them. Instead, they bought two one-way tickets to Europe and with backpacks and guitars started travelling and performing everywhere they could. They recorded their own CDs, they found companies to help along the way but always with BBG as the driving force. They apply the same formula to their feature films.

Touring With The Movies

Bright Blue Gorilla takes the movies on the road, touring in Europe with the films, performing at Art House Cinemas and select music venues. BBG fans have been enthusiastic about the movies & music combination and the Art House Cinema scene has welcomed BBG. Do a Google search for "The Mind of Henry Lime" and you'll see how far they've been able to spread their films with their do-it-yourself approach.

The BBG Players

The ensemble of actors was formed in 2004 during the writing of Sister Sarah's Sky. Michael was directing voiceover for a major talent agency in L.A. and he approached some of his favorite actors, offering to write a part for them. To his great surprise and pleasure nearly everyone said yes and The BBG Players was born! Now in their 3rd project together, actors and actresses like Burton Jespersen, Jim Petersmith, Denise Devin, Joseph Beck, and Sarah Rosenkrantz deliver every time. Josh T. Ryan, Sarah Ruth Ryan, and Kristin James & Henry James (both husband and wife teams) along with the multi-talented Michael Dunn, joined the ensemble for The Mind of Henry Lime and returned for Karate Film Café. Added to the ensemble for KFC are Roberta Bianchini (Italy) and Denis Aubert (France), and L.A. based Brian Joseph - a triple threat: actor, musician, composer. Aside from playing the character of Stew in Karate Film Café Brian & BBG co-wrote the catchy song from the film: "I'm Allergic (To Everything But You)".
